I've been recording my mileage since my truck was new. At 2000 miles I changed from the factory 0w-20 to 5w-20 dino oil and my mileage dropped 2.1 mpg. I changed back to 0w-20 at 5k and it went right back up 2.1 mpg. I wouldn't of believed it before I saw it. Oh, and though this test was done in cold northern Michigan, I ALWAYS preheat my engine below 32F, whether at home or at work.
If you consider 5k between oil changes and gas at $3.25 a gallon, 2 mpg saves me $112.85 per 5k miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEFINTELY worth the extra $ spent on the 0w-20.
