Talking Wood Stake Bed consideration/comments

First let me explain I'm Scottish therefore my language might not be accurate in describing what I mean, since I did not grow up in the USA.

So here goes, I've been looking around Juneau (small town), there's a couple of trucks with Canopies (RainForest: good idea) and I've seen on or two bed lids (not sure what there called) but a few Ford/GM have the homemade Wood Stake/ fence deal going for their bed, and only this week I've seen an aluminum roof/canopy on top of that. Since bottom line this is a work truck for me, sorry guys. I just recently scrapped out 1/2 ton peat gravel will not be needed until next winter. So any one out there with comments?

BTW: Truck of the month photo; no theme?
