I'm currently towing a 30' 6600# dry Travel Trailer. I have the weight distribution hitch, prodigy brake controller, a sway bar, and I always drive in tow mode. I've driven in automatic and manual shift. As to engine braking, the Tundra will engine brake in both the auto and manual modes. I have also used the cruise control but only on long straight sections of highway. On hilly areas, I am afraid the truck would continuously be shifting trying to reach the set speed. This past summer I towed my trailer through the WV mountains and I thought for sure I would be riding those brakes on those long downhill descents, however, I never had too. The truck would just coast along and the motor would down shift and keep things moving smoothly. I have a Crewmax 4x4 with the 5.7 and TRD Offroad package. As to gas mileage, from Ohio to S.C. through the mountains, I averaged about 8.5 miles per gallon. I've heard that's about average. Perhaps others can tune in as to their mileage.
