It all has to do with the gearing in the transfer case. It's not designed to exceed 62 because you start putting undue stress or your gears, like running up to 30 in first gear and holding it without shifting. Yeah, you can do it, but it's not a wise idea. You can also end up blowing your seals that way.

If you went past 62 for only a few seconds, I doubt you did any damage. Just don't keep doing it.
