Mark, I'm at 4,500 feet and run low octane (85 here in Utah). No need to run higher than that at higher altitudes. You're just wasting your money. I have no ping, even when running under load towing my TT up mountain roads.
If I were running at sea level I'd run the recommended 87 octane.
