The picture of the tandem axle armored truck on all my messages does the same thing. It has an Allison auto trans that will sense when the truck is slowing and needs more engine braking, thus it shifts down on it's own especially on downhills. It also has an engine retarder to give even more engine braking power. BTW that armored truck weighs 29,000lbs empty and 52,000lbs fully loaded with only 3 axle sets of brakes to slow it down. Without engine braking it would be a quick trip off of some of the mountain passes we have here Montana.
