  • Sound Deadening: eDead UE for doors and v1SEČ on floors and rear wall

Thank you to my friend Nick for all of his hard work and investment into this project. His love of car audio is second to none, and for his help (not to mention friendship) I sincerely thank you!!! Matt was also INVALUABLE to making this install go as smooth as possible, and getting an impossible amount of work done in such a short time. Thanks also go to James at Tech12volts.com for building a BEAUTIFUL enclosure that is perfect for me. UPS played a bit of kickball with the box, and although I asked James just to fabricate me a small vinyl cap for the top of the enclosure to cover the damage, he INSISTED on building me a new one! His attention to detail is impeccable, and so is his commitment to customer service.

Ok, enough with the warm fuzzies, here are the pictures!

Matt and I with the help of a neighbor stripped out the interior in less than two hours on Wednesday night:

Once UPS arrived on Friday with the shipment from Elemental Designs, we started deadening the cab.I decided against sealing the open areas with metal just in case. I actually plan on keeping this truck long enough for a window motor to potentially go bad, and I don't have the stomach to deal with the dealer. So I covered everything that I could. Do these doors have enough holes and bolts or WHAT? I went a little Type-A with trying to line up the seams between the pieces. I know, I know...no one will ever see it anyways.

While I was busy being ridiculous with the eDead, Nick was hard at work running power wire and setting up the new terminals and circuit breaker:

Component time! Using MDF spacers (treated with clearcoat in case of water contact) Nick mounted the Focal woofers and tweeters in their new homes:

It was extremely difficult to find proper mounting locations for everything. Since the Crewmax has a sliding and reclining rear seat, the seat bottoms not only cannot fold up, but there is a MESS of tracks, springs, and crossbars limiting clearance. We managed to cram the amps under the outer seats, and the crossover boxes join forces with the KnuKonceptz distribution blocks under the center cushion:

We install the box, power everything up...IT'S ALIVE! Not to mention it sounds AMAZING! Nick sets the gains, and then it's time to put the seats back in. Requires some minor adjustments, but in the end everything fits!!

THE FINISHED PRODUCT. The appearance is exactly as I wanted it...99% factory-looking. Tech's box in black vinyl blends perfectly with the black plastic on the rear of the cab. The seat backs hold it firmly in place with no rattles and plenty of room for sub excursion. I could actually move the seat bottoms back one click if I wanted, but I feel this allows for more airflow, not to mention it makes the front of the bottom cushion flush with the seat track. Makes for a more finished look in the interior. Making the box as wide as possible really made excellent use of interior space.

Thanks for looking!
