RMJ - K&N Intake install

Hey guys, well I got the K&N Intake for our Tundra. Comes with everything you need including hardware and bolts and nuts. The kit is pretty straight forward, install took about 35 minutes, mainly cause it got dark and I did it outside of our shop (we were tuning the new race car in the garage) and I got stubborn and did not want to grab a lamp, lol.

Tools I used were:

10mm wrench (mine is ratcheting but normal will work)
¼” Ratchet
8mm socket
10mm socket
12mm socket
Flat head and Phillips Head Screw driver
Razor blade

Most complicated part, which was not hard just time consuming, was running the seal around the heat shield, after that its smooth sailing.

Unplug the negative battery terminal (12mm bolt).

Removing the air box is simple, loosen the clamps at the throttle body and air box, all are 10mm sockets or a screwdriver. Carefully unplug the MAF and disconnect the vacuum hose and the crankcase vent hose. Unclip the upper airbox and carefully remove the upper air box and intake tube. The lower air box is held together with two 10mm Bolts, looking at the front of the Truck, one is in the lower right front outside corner of the air box and the second is in the upper left outside corner. Remove the lower box and it is all clear.





Next you prep your heat shield (carefully use the razor to splice the seal to make it around the 90 degree corners), loosely attach the two inner L-brackets (do not tighten any of the nuts and bolts till the end, this will help line-up everything.). Attach the L-bracket to the side of the passenger fender-well and also attach the Funny looking L-bracket to the side of the passenger-side engine valve cover. (basically follow the detailed K&N instructions.) Line everything up, start all the bolts and once it is all lined up, tighten away, make sure not to over tighten the nuts and bolt, as they are only 10mm and do not need to be tightened much, 6-8 lb feet at the most.





Attach the intake pipe to the throttle body, loosely tighten the clamps (I used the 8mm socket), attach the filter, tighten everything down.



Don’t forget to attach the funny L-bracket from the valve cover to the bottom of the Intake pipe.



Lastly place the engine cover back on, nice thing is you do not have to trim it to fit. Re-connect the negative battery cable. Double check to make sure the MAF is in the correct position. And start her up.









On my truck the Maintenance Required Light blink a few times, but went away. The CHECK ENGINE light did not come on. Drive for about 100 mile for the computer to relearn itself and to re-program your radio presets.

This intake really impressed me, throttle response improved dramatically, engine comes to life when you mash it. The sound is beautiful, at cruising it is calm and tame, but when you floor it sounds awesome.

Definitely recommend it. Can't wait to add the exhaust.
