I don't think the factory towing package hitch will work on the sport model. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure that is what I read. I have an 08 DC 4x4 with the factory towing package and it is rated to tow 10,300lbs. I have the Toyota factory ball mount and it is rated at 11,000lbs with 1,100lbs of tounge wieght. It appears that they installed a light duty class III hitch on your truck. I wouldn't tow 7,000lbs with that setup if it is only rated for 5,000lbs. Don't forget to check the rating on the actual ball. Most are only rated for 5,000 or 6,000lbs. You really need to look around to find one rated higher than that. I have a convert-a-ball and it is rated for 10,000lbs in 1 7/8, 2 & 2 5/16. I have another stainless 2 5/16 with a 1 1/4 shank that is rated for 12,000lbs just in case I pull the max and I have come close once. All the compenets, reciever hitch, ball mount, ball mount pin and ball need to meet or exceed your max tow rating to tow at that level.

Shouldn't be to hard to correct your brake controller if it is wired incorrectly.
