Yeah, coming here as a Cali native it struck me as being kind of strange too. But things are definitely different here in Utah. I've seen this guy hanging off on one of the on-ramps to the freeway I travel daily, and I know he's seen my truck more than a few times because I've got a Recon tailgate light bar on the the rear that makes my truck stand out like a sore thumb.

You sound like you play everything by the book; as it should be. But as we both know, every cop out there is different, and some "bend" the rules as to what they should and shouldn't do.

As mentioned in a previous post. I raced a Redondo Beach cop who owned; and blew me off, in a built Nova. We raced down an industrial area in Hawthorne, CA on Northrop Ave because it had been marked off at the quarter by the street racers. When we got to the end of the run there were squad cars waiting and lit us up. Didn't know it at the time, but it was all a big joke with the cops trying, and succeeding, to scare the hell out of me. Turned out it was the guy I was racing's local cop brethren.

I also had two Torrance city cops catch me on Hawthorne Blvd when I was driving the turbo-charged Pinto I also mentioned in a previous post, and wanted to race me in their cruiser. My car had quite a reputation in the Beach cities in those days, and every Torrance cop knew about it because that's where I lived.

At first I refused because I thought it was a setup to entrap me for racing, but the guys were adamant and told me they just wanted to see how fast it really was. So we hit the next light and when it changed I proceeded to smoke them like they were standing still. Got to the next light and the guy driving just said. "Okay, thanks" and turned off at the next corner.

Yes, you have cops who follow every rule. Then you have cops who use their lights and sirens to get home in time to watch Monday night football, and cops who pull people over to check out their ride.

It doesn't bother me if a fellow car/truck enthusiast wants to check out my wheels, just tells me they're human. No different than some cities who's cops pull people over for driving safe and then give them movie tickets. Personally I think it's good for police/community relations.
