Sounds pretty expensive to me. An aftermarket hitch install on my 1988 F-250 was about $425, which included the receiver (the part on the truck) and the load stabilizer tow hitch assembly for equilizer setup, along with a trailer brake controller. So I would find a UHAUL shop and have them install your hitch. I've used UHAUL for all of my trailer hitch installs and haven't had a single problem. They will also do electrical wiring checks on your trailer and truck for you if your having problems.
