Well, I came up with a somewhat pathetic patch just to keep the vent where I want it. I'll either pretty this one up or come up with something better in the future.
I just took an electrical alligator clip, aka roach clip for those of you from the 60's
, and wrapped the knarled ends with elctrical tape so it would not damage the plastic.
It worked fine on the way back to work it just looks like crap in a 2 day old truck!! I'm gonna call the deal now and see what they say.
