Not neccessarily true - in the long run. Short term yes, rebates hurt resale value of course - but did you buy your truck to sell it? in a year, in two? I plan on keeping mine until pay off - 4yrs minus 2 payments and counting! And am not so concerned with the short term effects of rebates, Besides I got 3500 off myself back in April - so I'm already there. Ok here is how it will affect us - by selling more tundra's toyota is strengthening the presence of these vehicles in the marketplace and putting up impressive numbers of sales - regardless of total profit earned at this point they are looking 4-5yrs down the road. The HD tundras are coming, turbo diesel and all - this is a long term assualt on the full size truck market - not some isolated one off they are looking to net a little profit on. We will benefit 2-4yrs down the road because we bought a toyota rather than a ford or gm product. Will tundras' hold thier value as well as say a prius? probably not but will they do better than any other truck out there (not counting the hondog since it is not in the same league here) - hell yes they will. So maybe this does a little damage on resale - this is historically true with many first year models in pretty much any car line - the 90 300ZTT, 93 supraTT and 93 RX7TTand like vehicles being exceptions to the rule. If you can't wait for the 2nd or even 3rd yr for the makers to get the bugs out and polish the model a bit then don't complain - you can't have it all. Look at it this way - we are the first to experience these trucks and so have the enjoyment of them now rather than having bought a ford or gm or titan 07 truck. Then in 08 or 09 or 1? we can't wait any longer and end up trading in our pos for a tundra - cause they are just so overwhelmingly better trucks - and then take the friggin huuuge bite on the trade in at that time. Which would you rather??
It is called a marketing strategy - and somewhere along the way it worked on all of us - grin an bear it man - not so hard to do sitting in your 07 tundra beastie
