I actually haven't even taken possession of my truck yet but I know I want to change it. Its actually quite upsetting that I can't get what I want directly from Toyota or the dealership. After playing the numbers game with the dealership I am getting the fully loaded Platinum in "attitude" black for 45K. Yes I know 45k for a truck is hard to swallow but I wanted the Tundra and the wife wanted the Lexus interior so enough said. What chaps my hide is the fact that the Platinum package comes with only one choice of rims and tires. The standard 20" alloy rims are not impressive and in fact are quite plain. They certainly aren't "platinum" material. Anyway, the first thing I want to do it level the suspension and replace the rims and tires. What suspension leveling or lifting kits are recommended?
Also, I am looking for suggestions on good quality rim manufactures and an upgraded "beefier" looking tire.
I can tell you from experience MotoMetal is off the list. I had motometal chrome rims on my Avalanche and they pitted and the chrome started coming off within the first year of having them. They do no stand behind their product.
The final modification I want to do "for now" is to paint the middle grill piece black. I saw someone on the Tundratalk forum spray it with dip coating. Is that the best method for long lasting covering or should I take it to a paint shop and have them do it?
so you are going for look not functionality? If thats the case then a simple 3/1 leveling kit would be enough. Do not put plastidip on your 50k truck please. if you want to modify your truck then spend the cheese and do it right.
For a tire, if you are looking for a "tough looking tire" then get Nitto terra grapplers or BFG all terrains.
If you want functionality then you need more suspension travel and better snow, mud , sand grip. If you want this then you at least need to do what I have in my signature. Old Man Emu 614 lift, wrangler duratrac tires, camburg UCA (not necessary but the stock one will limit your down travel) OEM rear shocks (most travel available) and coachbuilder shackles / carrier drop.
i second the no plasi dip. i did mine until my grille was available. it has been almost 1 year and i had to redo it twice. winter road grim kills the color and bugs dont come off very easily. pay the money and get a replacement grill or paint it with the right products.
My dealer matched the price on mine, plus threw in 3 more years of free oil service. Of course it was about 50K when I got hammered by Washington State sales taxes. End of the year deals also.
thats what they are advertising its probably the invoice price (what the dealer paid for the truck). That doesn't factor in all the dealer charges, tax accessories, destination or gas guzzler tax ect.
Im serious go try and buy it with exactly 45k you you wont get it.
My 1794 was marked at 44k (turned out to be the invoice price not the msrp) by the time it was all said and done it was something closer to 50k
I got pretty deep into talks with Longo before I purchased elsewhere. 45K OTD before TTL. All dealer fees and Rebates included. I ended up getting mine from another state for $43,xxx. It's fully possible to find them lower.
With that said I must have spoken to nearly 40 dealers. Most are unwilling to go below $46K.

Under $200 for plane tickets, then gas traveling from CO to CA. The wife and I plan on spending a day in Colorado Springs for out anniversary and then stopping in Vegas for a night too. Make it into a mini vacation.
Welcome to the forum. My experience with Moto Metal has been awesome. I have MM 961 and after two severe PA winters and they still look pristine. What year did you have your MM wheels? Which ones?
