The Birth of Japanese Auto Industry did not get off to a good start.
After WWII Japanese businessmen put together a new auto plant, that was converted from dive bombers. They were proud of their "new" cars, but were stumped for a name. Very impressed with the Mercedes they went to the top engineers in German and asked help in naming a their new car. Hoping to captalize on the American market, They asked for an easy name to remember. When the Germans asked when they planned to introduce it to America, and were told "Two Weeks". Their reply//
Ahhh "Dat Zun"??
And the rest was history..
Many of you remember those rust buckets. I Think the turn on Japanese markets came with the renaming of Datsun. Maybe with the intro of Honda also.. Toyota used to be a joke.. Not any more. Remember their first trucks?? Had to order every item seperate, including bumpers.
