After WWII, leaders in American industry took a "model of industry" to Japan to teach them how to manufacture things. It was a model that American manufacturers didn't have much faith in, and actually joked about, but figured that it would keep them busy.
Years later, as the Japanese follow that model to the letter, they are making better products, not just cars, at a better price.
Meanwhile, our manufacturing process is burdened with un-skilled over-paid unions.
