Its a great idea if you want to haul stuff like firewood in the bed. With the higher "Stake Side" bed you can haul more in the bed of the truck. Just make sure you create a tailgate for the stake part of the bed or it kind of defeats the purpose.
I created a stake bed for my Utility Trailer, I'll try and get some pics tomorrow and put up on this post.
The problem with stake beds is its uncovered so anything you put back there will get wet, or stolen. Other than that its a great way to add extra high sides on the bed of a truck to allow for maximum hauling capabilities.
I however have a camper shell on my Tundra, that locks so that I can put things in the back that will stay dry and secure.
