Considering it sounds like his cabin is roughly 1 1/2 hrs from a main road really My guess is that even in the summer there are not too many human folk around.
Up at my lake house many people don't even lock there doors at night and even in the day when they are going in to town or out on the water for the day.
It is one of those type things where if someone takes all the trouble to get to your place then not even a 2 foot thick concrete wall is going to stop them from getting in.
