Having just bought a SR5 DC a couple weeks ago, I have read this thread with great interest and amazement. I find it hard to believe that I may need to spend on the order of $600 in 5 years to replace my TPMS sensors.
From a more recent thread, it seems as though someone just found a tire dealer that has a computer to reset the truck computer, so it may only be a matter of time before aftermarket sensors become available. Let's hope so! They are in all the new vehicles so it seems like there's opportunity out there for the aftermaket industry to make a move.
I checked my Toyota Platinum 7 year/75,000 mile extended warranty and found that nothing related to TPMS was mentioned although it lists a gazillion things that are covered. Specifically excluded are tires and wheels, so I guess I'm SOL if the sensors' batteries crap out at 5 years.
I want to replace my styled steel wheels with alloys, preferably the TRD models, but I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into before I do. There's no way I could stand driving around with a light on my dash. I learned a lot from this thread. Thanks everybody.
