just did my 1st oil change this evening... wow, what a frickin joke. why didnt toyota just put an external filter on like 95% of the other vehicles out there. i got oil all over myself, the ground, and my truck. when i stuck that little nipple thing in the bottom of the filter to drain it before removal, i got splattered in the face.
then i went and got a 65mm filter wrench while the oil was draining. came home, it wouldnt work. it was too large. but it was one that was kind of like 2 sizes in one. it said 65/67 on it. it was just a cheepy, so i thought id go get a good one. so i went to a different auto parts store, they didnt have a 65. so i go to the THIRD store and get a 65, take it home and it still doesnt work. still too big. it seemed like it fit tight when i slid it on, but as soon as i tried turning it it would skip cogs and just spin. so i said screw it, grabbed a channel lock pliers out of my tool box. and wow was that thing on there tight. i busted my balls even with a large channel lock. i dont know if it was over torqued from the factory or what.....but damn. when i put it back on, i just tightened it as much as i could with my hand so it isnt so damn hard to take off next time. i took it for a spin around town afterwards, and it isnt leaking. so hopefully "hand tight" is good enough.
question: where are you guys getting your mobile 1? i got 3 5qt jugs of 5w 20 at walmart for about $24 a piece. know of anywhere cheaper?
