i've been reading a few pages of this paint problem and paint sealent protection.. Im also a auto detailer and i own a 07 crewmax slate met. and i would say the paint is thin my self. some one keyed my truck 2 months after i purchased it and now months later im finally going to get the whole side painted which is going to cost 1500 and it also includes removing a nice dent in the box side.
but as a detailer i also do rustproofing and undercoating which i know is very expensive from the dealership. the undercoating i would say is a must have if your around salty roads in the winter.. and we also do the paint sealents when the dealers say you won't ever have to wax your vehicle again HAA yeah right. i dont think it lasts for more than a year as i already done my truck 2 times in less than a year and it already needs waxing now. And The best thing for your paint before you wax it is to use a Claybar, normally they recommend to use this special spary to use with the claybar but thats not necessary u can just use a can of glass cleaner less expensive and works just as good. As i do over 70 cars a month with that, works great on older and newer cars just fine.
so to use a paint sealent on toyota paint is fine, but its a big waste of money from the dealership as i know just for a wax they charge over $200 so i recommend using a mothers wax or Meguiars tech NXT Generation wax or gold class which leaves your paint super smooth and a nice shine and it removes most fine swirl marks.
