yes. When you raise the truck off the ground, it has to push more air out of the way. Wind tunnel testing has not been completed but preliminary data(common sense) shows that neither nerf bars nor running boards improve or degrade fuel mileage in any situation. They do, however, seem to protect against some forms of "door dings" in field tests.
If you do buy nerf bars, I would suggest stainless steel from Nasta. They come with stainless steel brackets so the truck will rust before the nerf bars. I had a set on a previous truck and loved them.
