In his case it was not rusting, just the bear metal.
I guess if you drive every day it keeps the metal sand blasted clean so that rust does not built up.
So it has nothing to do with were you are from, rather how much you drive and if you have the step bars.
Marc, I just went out to check my truck, and mine has the rock gaurd that starts on the bottom part of the doors and its on the rocker panels as well, i see no bare metal. I don't have step bars either.I though all the Tundras have this rock gaurd on?
